Alicia Tena Chiesa

I AM ALFA because no matter what life throws at me, I will always get back up and push myself to do and be better. I see life’s challenges as lessons rather than obstacles.

My name is Alicia Tena Chiesa. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and I currently reside there. I work full-time as a marketing specialist for the four major sports teams in Calgary, and have worked in marketing for ten years. I am a sponsored athlete with Magnum Nutraceuticals, and have been for almost five years. I started doing bikini/fitness competitions in 2015 and from there found my passion for fitness modelling.

Outside of the gym, I love being outdoors, travelling, hiking, reading and spending time with my boyfriend, family and friends.

While I am not currently training clients, I have been a certified personal trainer for ten years. I previously worked as a trainer at a gym, and most recently for a home-based business. Training clients is so much more for me than just teaching them proper form and exercises. For me, it is about forming a bond with that client, pushing them to see what they are capable of and helping them to be confident and strong.

I absolutely loved getting to spend one-on-one time with my clients, and helping them to love and believe in themselves.

What are the qualities in you that you consider yourself to be an ALFA?

I am ALFA because I am both mentally and physically strong, confident, independent and resilient. No matter what life throws at me, I will always get back up and push myself to do and be better.

I see life’s challenges as lessons rather than obstacles. I am determined to create my own success in life and be the best version of me that I can be! I also want to always inspire, and empower others to realize that they can do anything they set their mind to with hard work and dedication. To me, a huge part of being alfa is also helping others realize their potential.

What are the most rewarding things that Fitness has brought you?

Fitness has brought me both physical and mental rewards. The mental rewards that fitness has brought me have been life changing. First and foremost, I have battled anxiety most of my life. Working out has been a huge outlet for me in coping with this and anything life throws my way. Fitness has brought me confidence, and empowerment after being teared down by others for many years. I have gained so much mental strength through fitness, and realized what both my mind and body are capable of. I have also met so many like-minded, passionate, incredible individuals that have become my lifelong friends.

As for the physical, the biggest rewards I’ve received are the opportunity to go to the Olympia three times with my amazing Magnum teammates and participate in incredible photoshoots and team bonding, being pictured on the box for Magnum ‘Carne Diem’, being on the cover of the magazine of the federation I competed in and in multiple publications. It’s very rewarding when your hard work and dedication pays off in these ways.

When was the most Alfa moment in your life.

The most alfa moment in my life was rising above being bullied and a target for other’s hate throughout high school. Instead of crumbling, I was able to use this as fuel to be successful and make something of my life. I always try to remember that others may be going through something much greater than we are aware of and to be kind always (even when you aren’t being met with kindness). Staying calm and not reacting out of anger, but rather a place of compassion is alfa to me.

What’s next for you?

I would love to continue to grow my career in fitness modelling. I want to maintain a fit physique year-round, and be able to shoot on a moment’s notice. I’ll be working with my coach to rebuild/put on some muscle mass in the coming months.

I would also love to travel overseas, so I’ll be working hard to make this happen. I have a lot of countries to see on my bucket list.

I want to excel in my career and also start my own social media consulting business. I would also love to start personal training women again with my own business.

I also plan on finding a way to mentor young girls/teenagers that may be going through some of the issues that I went through. I used to work with a lot of non-profit organizations and want to continue to do so and volunteer my time.

What would be the ultimate tips you could share with everyone about life and health.

My number one health tip would be to find what works for YOU. For me, making the change to IIFYM changed my life and is something I will be able to sustain for life. Find something that you can maintain and see yourself sticking to year-round. Don’t fall for fad diets, products or promises. These may work temporarily, but not long term.

Train for you and you only. If you’re trying to change your physique for someone else, there is a good chance you’ll lose your passion along the way. We are so lucky to have the ability to shape our bodies how WE choose.

The only person you should ever try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday. We are all so unique, with unique shapes, sizes, bodies and personalities. Your only comparison should be with yourself. Constantly try to improve yourself and don’t worry about what others are doing!

What about life? What tips can you give to our readers about what you’ve learnt?

Things always get better. There is always a brighter tomorrow.

Everything really does happen for a reason. As cliché as that sounds. When one door closes, trust that it’s for a reason.

You can do anything that you put your mind to if you are willing to put in the work.

Kindness and graciousness get you farther in life. Anger gets you nowhere.

It’s okay to fail or not get the outcome you desired. It will just make you that much stronger and make you work even harder.
